Red to Blue (MN-6th): Tinklenberg competitive vs. Bachmann

I got surprising hope for taking out ultra-conservative creationist Bush groupie, Representative Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) this morning from her challenger, Elwyn Tinklenberg:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced today that El Tinklenberg has been added to their top-tier Red to Blue program as a candidate for change. The announcement follows Tinklenberg's financial report which shows $469,000 raised in the third quarter and $1,000,065 raised this cycle. Tinklenberg filed with $356,631 cash on hand.

The DCCC suddenly took another look at Tinklenberg after realizing that his last three month haul was twice what he'd picked up in the last two quarters combined.  His problem so far has been that it's hard to get his message out.  Now he hopefully can.  We may have a race, people.

Tonite's Debate

Bob Schieffer of CBS, a journalist I have some respect for (although his Texas-born partiality to W. emerged now and then over the years), is moderator for the third and final debate tonite. Everyone is wondering how McCain will bring his promised "Bill Ayers" attack to the floor.

I saw a T-shirt yesterday that read "Bill Ayers - Who Cares?"  Apparently McCain does. However, the debate rules, unless they are violated all around, will probably work against any kind of sustained attack with no follow-up questions, etc. Both sides, but especially the Republicans, worked hard to keep these debates as non-debate-ish as possible, and McCain (and Obama) may regret it afterward.

If Schieffer spends as much time tonite as Brokaw did insisting on the rules, this could be another potentially boring event.

BREAKING: Colin Powell Ready to Endorse Obama?

Crossposted at The Motley Moose

Quick news diary: I have no idea how connected Lawrence O'Connell is, but on the Huffington Post he's suggesting Colin Powell will endorse Obama after tonight's debate

It now seems beyond doubt that Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama and thereby hammer the final nail in the coffin of the Republican campaign to hold onto the White House.

Palin to speak in New Hampshire. about changing. Leaves.

Sarah Palin's triumphal tour of New Hampshire?!?.  Huh?  Could someone please tell me what I'm missing here.  I know that the campaign is scrounging for votes like a junkie pawing away beneath the sofa cushions for a lint-covered M&M, but seriously, New Hampshire?

John McCain Betrayed the Man Who Saved His Life

Crossposted from The Motley Moose

We hear a lot about John McCain's military record.  Most often we are hearing about it from John McCain, unless Sarah Palin is telling us how much he doesn't like to talk about it.

Apparently there is one part he doesn't like to talk about, and that's how he was saved from drowning and being beaten to death by Mr. Mai Van On.
