I'm going to appeal to all you true Obama voters. The ones who got his message. Renounce/denounce every rabid obama supporter who comes out ridiculing her or her supporters going forward.

Let's show a little class (none / 0)

She fought a hard campaign. I admire her for that.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

I won't be giving up on Clinton even if she gives this speech. She is a remarkable, classy lady of steel. A lot of my friends and I are currently undecided. We will listen to what she says.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

Since common sense seems to elude you, what my comment clearly meant was this - if Obama is the nominee, I am an undecided voter. But that does not mean that I have given up the prospect of Clinton on the ticket. So kindly employ some common sense before jumping down my throat.

Here's a phantom TR for implying that the previous poster is stupid.  I'd give you a real one, but then we'd just be messing with one another's ratings and I do not want to engage in the type of abuse you seem quite comfortable with.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

No the press and the Obama campaign. No bother they are clarifying on TV as I type. Sounds like she is actually suspending her campaign. She's not releasing her delegates. Sounds like no endorsement will be coming. Good.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

get with the program If you are a dem this is a great day

if you are a repug then I would understand where you are coming from  If I was a repug like you I would be pissed too I would want this to go to the convention and keep trolling dem sites under the cover of a Hillary supporter and do everything I can to stop talk of unity and spread fake conspriracy theories like "its a trick from the Obama campaign don't listen"  or my favorite " She's not releasing her delegates. Sounds like no endorsement will be coming. Good."

yep so you have every right to be pissed or frighten repug you and your boy McCain days are numbered so if I were you i would enjoy the twilight of the Bush administration while it last because Change is certainly coming to Washington and there is no amounting of fearmongering warmongering or hatemongering the likes of you and other repugs can do to stop it
so I suggest not to invest heavily on the McCain Romney bumper stickers
have a nice day

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

The title of this diary is incorrect.  And if this news is a ploy by the Obama campaign to suppress voter turnout..I honestly don't see how Obama supporters could defend that.

by JustJennifer on Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 11:06:54 AM EST

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

How is the title incorrect?  And it was her campaign staff who leaked it to the AP.  The cynicism is breathtaking on this website.

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City. She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

Ah yes, the officials who cannot divulge her plans.  If she concedes she turns over her delegates to him, correct?

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

She's conceding that he's the nominee, but apparently not officially suspending her campaign.  Once she does that and formally endorses him then he will receive her delegates, I believe.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

She can't do both

If she is suspending - she keeps her delegates
if she is conceding - she releases her delegates to vote for whomever they want to

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

I'm not sure how they'll parse it.  Right now the AP is saying that she'll concede that he has the nomination, whatever that turns out to actually mean.  I don't know the practical impact of that statement in terms of her delegates (whether the concession is entirely formal or not).

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

Technically, the delegates become uncomitted. She cannot dictate who they will go to. But for practical purposes, you're right.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

concede - releases her delegates to vote for whomever they want.  Doesn't mean he gets them

suspend - she holds on to her delegates.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

It's a distinction without a difference.

Edwards suspended his campaign and I believe never formally ended up.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

She is doing neither.

If the article is right she is just going to admit that Obama has enough delegates to win the nomination.

Story now up:

Not a concession....but she will acknowledge he is the nominee.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

No endorsement. No releasing of her votes or delegates. She's going to the convention.

She is going to the convention, correct, to give a great speech in support of the Democratic nominee.

in 2004, Kucinich also went to the convention technically.

I will believe it when I see it.

The article claims she isn't suspending her campaign.  If that is true then she has something up her sleeve.

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

/ WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City. Obama is 40 delegates shy of clinching the nomination, but he is widely expected to make up the difference Tuesday with superdelegate support and votes in South Dakota and Montana. Once he reaches the magic number of 2,118, Clinton will acknowledge that he has secured the necessary delegates to be the nominee.

She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

The advisers said Clinton has made a strategic decision to not formally end her campaign, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care./

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

MSNBC reporting that she is not suspending so she can barter for VP and/or concessions on issues such as health care...doesn't sound like she is headed to the convention to me.

I'd be downright shocked if she flat out suspended her campaign today, in fact I'm surprised she conceded so soon. There must have been a clear signal from the leadership/ superdelegates.

by animated on Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 11:19:20 AM EST

Sorry to deflate your bubbles, but... (2.00 / 1)

CNN with McCauliffe says the reports she will concede tonight are "100 PERCENT WRONG".

Re: BREAKING: Hillary to concede tonight (AP) (none / 0)

But Terry did say this morning:

"I don't think she's going to go to the credentials committee," he said on NBC's "Today" show. Taking the matter to that committee would essentially extend the dispute into the convention and deny Democrats the unity they sorely want to achieve against Republican John McCain.
